Normally I avoid screwing around with my film photography post-production, I prefer my photos to have their native colors and native grayscale inherent to the filmstock I shot them on. The exception would be to touch-up the dust specs that got into the scans, and occasionally adjusting the contrast on what might have been a fantastic shot save for some metering issues muddying up the exposure.
However, lately I’ve enjoyed colorizing the occasional B&W photo. It feels like I’m breathing a second life into an image, getting two separate photos from the same shot. I also enjoy the artificial look of the colorized photo, they always resemble postcards from 50 or 60 years ago. It’s a neat effect, appeals to my sense for novelty, and is fun to do.
